Schools Work
Thrive Leeds connect with local schools in a range of ways and look for opportunities to encourage young people of their value and increase their confidence.
Our secondary schools work includes small groups and mentoring, with a focus on Year 7 girls at Carr Manor Community school. We support young people as they transition into high school and give space for creativity, reflection and encouragement.
We have found that these groups build confidence and connection, and the young people have shared that taking part:
- Encouraged self esteem: “Helped me with my confidence”
- Developed friendships: “Get to know each other”
- Developed individuals: “I can be kind”, “I can encourage people”, “I didn’t realise I was kind until someone told me I was”
- Meant something: “I will miss this group”
Our primary school work includes assemblies exploring themes from Bible stories, Christian festivals and how we can live positive lives. We also run prayer rooms and do transition work with Year 6s, as they prepare for High School.
This work has been supported by a Magic Little Grant through the partnership between Localgiving and Postcode Neighbourhood Trust. Postcode Neighbourhood Trust is a grant-giving charity funded by players of People’s Postcode Lottery. Localgiving is the UK’s leading membership and support network for local charities and community groups. Our project received £500 to support our transition work for Year 6s moving into Year 7.
